Every single dog lover should read this book! I did not know it would be humanly possible for me to love my dogs any more than I already do, but after reading this book, that changed to 1 million times more.
Ummmm, I almost cannot fathom how the depths of my love for my Critters could be any deeper than I've always felt about them, but I was WRONG! In a few short hours of reading Mr Cameron's 'A Dog's Purpose' I have realized that as a Disabled American Veteran who struggles with PTSD how they have saved my life & continue to save my life on a daily basis with their unconditional warmth, love, loyalty & compassion! They give their ALL to us in everything they do & ask for so very little in return. They are God's Greatest gift to us Humans here on Earth & Im so glad that this Wonderful Book reminded me of that.This is a Definite 'Must Read' book for the entire Human Race! To go along and experience Toby, Baily, Ellie & Buddy's Purpose in life might not only help us appreciate our loyal animal companions more, but each other as well!
Definately a MUST have book for anyone that has lost a pet. The story is told first person by the dog - it is absolutely brilliant; the dog lives several lives and you will find yourself remembering your special companion in each chapter of this dogs life. You will laugh and you will cry - and you will find some comfort for your recent loss. It truely help my broken heart when I has recently lost my miniature schnauzer at 14 years 39 days young - she had been with me since she was 8 weeks old.Thank you to Bruce Cameron for your brilliant mind to write such a heartwarming book for us pet lovers - once again, your book helped me through the most difficult time I have had in my life - I read it in one day.
I have loss two dogs Missy and Maxwell. Missy died of old age 1.5 years ago and Maxwell, age 4.5 years old, was euthanized three weeks ago. It was a shocking and devastating decision to make and live through. My friend's husband told her to tell me to read this book. I reluctantly did because the grief was so heavy; however, I am so glad I did! A Dog's Purpose has helped me through the pain and grief that I had to deal with in loosing my Maxwell. I'm now able to remember at numerous times he made me laugh and loved me daily! I miss him so much!
When I first heard of the movie "A Dog's Purpose," I searched for more information and was delighted to see that there is a novel on which the movie is based! My personal rule of thumb is that I need to read the book before seeing the movie because there are so many details in a book that a movie is unable to cover and I find it easier to follow a movie if I know more of the details. We don't currently own a dog but both my husband and I had dogs when we were growing up so we have soft spots for them. Shortly after this book arrived in the mail, I dove in because I was eager to read it!A Dog's Purpose is a novel and is written from the point-of-view of a dog. The book starts out when the puppy first opens his eyes and starts to take in his mother, siblings, and new world. Gradually the puppy grows up, discovers his purpose in life and learns a lot along the way, grows old, and is reborn as a new puppy. Throughout the entire novel, the dog's spirit remains the same since he remembers his past lives and things he's learned. We see the same dog spirit as four different dogs, both male and female, as well as different breeds and lifestyles. As the novel progresses, the dog remembers his past lives and works through figuring out his purpose in life.From the moment I started this book, I loved it! It is comical at times, sometimes sad, and it's entertaining to read about the actions of humans from an animal's perspective. I enjoyed reading about the dogs in this book and I think I enjoyed Ellie's story most, probably because we owned a German Shepard/Husky mix a long time ago and it made me remember her a little bit more. We currently have one cat and hearing about cats from a dog's perspective is hilarious and spot-on! I loved this book and am excited to see the movie to see how the story has been adapted. If you currently own a pet, or have in the past, this book is a must-read. I think anyone who's owned a dog at some point will love this book. I already purchased the sequel, A Dog's Journey, and am excited to read that book too! This book is very highly recommended for all animal lovers!
As an owner of two amazing dogs (and I have had dogs in my life since grade school), this book has completely changed the way I look at those precious faces. First of all, I adopted a senior dog and frequently think of how crushed I will be when she leaves this Earth. This book has calmed that anxiety, so I would definitely recommend this for those who have recently lost a pet. Second of all, I must have cried, at least, at every other chapter. It is beautifully written from the point of view of a dog. I have told every dog lover in my life that they must read this book immediately. Just when we think we adopt and rescue dogs, we fail to notice, or take of advantage of the idea that it is the dogs who rescue us.
This book touched my heart. I had a hard time putting it down, because I was so anxious to see what was going to happen next. It was so unique, written from the dog's perspective. It made me laugh out loud and cry alot, but I absolutely loved the heartwarming story line. It will of course make you think about every dog you have had in your life, but also made me realize how one chapter of my life has prepared me for each chapter that has followed. Curl up & read this book!
