While I am not a big fan of the "Dummies" books, this is a book I highly recommend. I have read most of the M&A books available and this stands head and shoulders above them all. The author, a M&A professional, covers many important topics that others pass over e.g., how to contact possible buyers and provides scripts to overcome objections. It is easy to read and loaded with examples.Dr. Stephen Webb

I did not like this book. I felt the focus was too much on the business side of M&A and not enough on the legal side. I think a good M&A book would cover both sides on this topic.

This is a well-written book covering the most important points regarding buying and selling of a business. For anyone considering entering or exiting a business, start here and then hire a professional business intermediary to help you through the complex process.

This book is really well written and does a fantastic job of walking the reader through the various aspects of M&A. While it does a great job illustrating the terms and concepts, the author also does a nice job adding some tips and practical advice along the way. This is a must read for people dealing with M&A.

"Mergers & Acquisitions For Dummies" is a tremendously well-written book that both M&A rookies and seasoned dealmakers would find useful. It covers the very basics, such as the difference between a merger and an acquisition, as well as the nuanced details of a transaction, including the LOI and purchase agreement. The author's deep expertise comes through at various times in the book, as he sprinkles in hints and tips based on his own experience to go along with the basic factual information. You feel like the author is pulling you aside at the negotiation table and whispering in your ear. For example, in Chapter 12, he discusses valuation ranges, expressing that while you can do a lot of work trying to value a company, most sell for 4x-6x EBITDA, and that while it is possible for a business to sell outside of that range, it is not customary, at least not for a middle market transaction. He also offers some helpful commentary on digging around for potential sellers (including some scripts that he has found to be useful in cold calling), and his thoughts on wealth advisors (the dirty secret is that most of the work at the larger firms is done by junior people with little to no experience). While the book is intended to be used as a reference book, where the reader flips to an applicable chapter and reads just that part of the book, I found it to be an interesting read from start to finish. The author's writing style is engaging and light, and he gives plenty of details, but doesn't overwhelm the reader with them. One thing I would note is that a good portion of the book was written from the perspective of an existing business owner looking to make an acquisition or sell his/her business. These parts are not necessarily targeted at the individual or family looking to buy a small business (e.g., restaurant), though much of the information would certainly still be applicable and isn't a reason for individuals/families not to buy the book. Overall, the author does a fine job summarizing a topic that could fill 10 similarly-sized books, and frankly it's one of the best books on this topic that's out there. Business owners would be wise to give it a thorough read before embarking on any significant dealmaking (either buying or selling).

Good place to start if you know nothing about M&A. Reference the book often. It is an easy read with clear examples.

I also read it several times after the initial agreement with the eventual buyer. I found it extremely helpful, easy-to-understand, and packed full of useful checklists and suggestions. I have recommended it to several friends with small businesses including members of my Vistage group (Vistage is an organization of business owners who get together once a month or so to help with each other's issues). The advice was practical and still helpful to me now even though it has been six months since we inked the deal.

This is the only “for dummies” book I have ever read in a very specific context. It was very informative.

When I look for a book. It has to speak to me in the 1st few pages. Not only did this one speak to me but it made me not want to put it down. Really good book about a person who's dealing with Dyslexia and growing up. To think no one figured out he had dyslexia until he was 14.

Eleven-year-old Josh has a problem: he can't read. Despite the tutors, letters won't come together: "It was like wading through the mud in his rubber boots at low tide." And his parents have split. He's on Vancouver Island with his boat-building dad, and his mother's in Toronto with his older brother Matt. While he's adjusted to living on a schooner on the Canadian west coast, he'd rather be sailing: "In a breeze like that, Nomad would be flying. He could almost taste the salt spray misting across the bow."Then he sees his chance to earn respect from his mockers, especially one girl at the marina. A sailing contest for a crew of two is upcoming. The girl issues him a challenge, and he's confident...until he learns that Matt has to stay at home and go to summer school. The dream vanishes and Josh wonders if life will ever improve.It's tough to write a good YA book. The author needs to master the vocabulary, the sentence structure, the culture, and the interests of that age group. Jenny Watson captures the stubborn but frustratingly helpless nature of a creative young boy with a handicap he can't understand. He can dive to the bottom of the harbour to find lost clamps, and he can rig a boat blindfolded and weather a storm. Facing the sea with bravery is in his blood. But ask him to read to the young kids at the library if he loses a bet, and he's panicking.A good book should instruct and delight, and this one wins stars on both counts. Watson sprinkles the sailing lore with a deft hand, a bit at a time, while handling a suspenseful plot. Toss in a slightly dysfunctional family, and the task gets even tougher. Yet Josh's father and mother are rounded characters, totally believable. They love their kids, but they can't get along. Many will identify with this dilemma.Watson lives in Victoria, and she's captured the ambience of the dockside like a painted locket miniature: "Josh took a deep breath, inhaling the smells of seawater and mud, a hint of pine from the trees that lined the shore, and just the slightest sourness from the mill across the bay." The weekend sailors, those who call their boats home, the hustle and bustle of keeping a vessel in top condition, not to mention the excitement of a race and the safety precautions make the pages come to life. Very disappointed. My boys love Minecraft and own a couple of other Minecraft books. I thought this would be nice to add to their collection, but when it arrived, I was underwhelmed. It was to be a Christmas gift for one of my boys, but after flipping through it, I decided to just add it to the bookshelf and order a better book. We have the one with the Golden Pear on the front, the red stone book, and the one with the Sword (a hardcover book). All have nice, colorful pages and show a lot of neat Minecraft stuff. This is plain white paper with text. That's it. Very boring and unappealing. Not really worth my time to return...save yourself the hassle and get the ones with the colorful pages.

My son earned this by doing extra school work and reading time. I felt sorry for him because it was half the size of the handbooks that his brothers selected and it was taller, so it stood out, was thin, and didn't have the "awe" texture or look of their other books. He looked through it. HE's ASD, so no comments were needed. He set it aside and walked away. I don't feel it was advertised incorrectly, I just feel it was way overpriced for the product and extremely disappointing for someone who worked so hard to earn it.

These are not real Minecraft books they are a bogus invitation. I bought them for my son and he said they’re like something a 10-year-old could do in 30 minutes. They are very disappointing and I would’ve given them no stars if that were possible. Do not waste your money.

Great book, my kids love all Minecraft, and this book is helpful!

Such a disappointment, my 8 year old purchased this book, and is very upset that he wasted $6 on it. The font is huge, the pictures are all black and white, and the information is very basic. I am not impressed, and will be sending it back.

My son received it for his birthday. He has not had time to read it yet but he is grateful for such a nice book.

it has helped me a lot with my Minecraft skills since I have not been playing it for a long time. Minecraft beginners would surely love this book and find it helpful too.
