This book should come in every team starter pack, box of uniforms, bucket of balls...somewhere. The first few chapters are amazing starting info that could get anyone up to speed enough for most youth league games. Then, slowly, more details are added to round out the picture in a digestible way.Get this and read it!
This author provides excellent, step-by-step instructions. Other books get bogged down in a multitude of boring chapters enumerating detailed rules, and the reader is left wondering when (if?) the actual scorebook will make an appearance. This tutorial is much more practical. Those who have never kept a scorebook before can get started with the basics after about ten minutes. Once those basics are mastered, additional chapters (one step at a time) provide incrementally more details, allowing the scorekeeper to be as detailed as desired/necessary.Throughout the book, examples are provided with prose describing a game situation, followed by illustrations to show exactly how the given scenario should be documented in the scorebook. Those who already know the basics of scorekeeping but want to get better will find this well worth the money. Even though I considered myself an intermediate scorekeeper, I found there were a few helpful hints in the beginners section that I'd never heard before -- those things that seem obvious once you hear them, but aren't so obvious until then. The intermediate and advanced sections provide clear information as to what constitutes an error (and what does not), and by the time the book has been completed, the scorekeeper should be able to provide a detailed account of the ball game, including all the relevant statistics.
My son is a Highschool sophmores and I never played the game. This keeps me busy and quiet and some day he will be able to look back on a nice record of his games.The book builds you up from simple basics to tracking every pitch and runner.
Sometimes you waste money - in this case $6.00 - oh well, like a nice cup of coffee that you let get cold for some reason. You are much better off getting a free guide from the internet. This one was absolutely excellent: [...]I think the author is well intentioned, and the goal is to convey enthusiasm for scoring a game but this is a silly e-book.
Good for beginners and the more experienced scorekeepers. I keep it on my phone in case I'm at a game and I don't know how to notate something.
As the parent of a baseball player, I had NO scorekeeping knowledge, but had volunteered. This book really helped.I learned a lot about the game by reading the Beginning chapters. Now I look forward to scorekeeping next season, and applying what I learned in the Intermediate chapters.I can't thank you enough for this excellent tool that will benefit myself, my children and their teams.
