Architecture is a visual medium, and more pictures and plans would have been greatly appreciated. I read the book on a Kindle, and maybe the Kindle version doesn't include as many illustrations as the printed book, so my comments only apply to the Kindle version. Otherwise, it revealed Frank Lloyd Wright as a man who apparently drank his own cool-aid, and seemed to believe even his own rewriting of history. A brilliant designer who probably didn't need to make himself larger than life in order to be considered an icon in architecture.

The author of this book, Ada Louise Huxtable, is a well known architectural historian, critic, and journalist.This book is a compact review of modern architecture that features a superficial portrait of FLW - his life, philosophy, theories and personality - and his influence on architecture, internationally. There are about ten poorly reproduced black and white photographs that provide inadequate illustration of the FLW style and work.This short treatment is not intended to be a serious or technical study of the great architect's work. There are other biographies and volumes for that. Huxtable handles skillfully the balance between an almost prurient coverage of the details of FLW's always erratic and sometimes tragic life with the history and analysis of the man and his work. This book is definitely a popularization of abig subject and as such appears to be be intended for the neophyte or casual reader.

I bought these books for my grandson who was doing a school report on Wright. I haven't seen the book but Max and his family thought it was good.

I haven't finished this book yet, but, from what I've read till now, I'm fascinated. Frank Lloyd Wright was a real American original: a genius for sure, but an enormously controversial personality whom not everybody loved. Huxtable (who, regrettably, just died at the age of 92), was a wonderful architecture critic and she tells the story well. I'm fascinated by it because I want to understand, as best I can, what this brilliant but truly strange and often not very pleasant man was all about.

FLW was a true original, and unique architect and person. This book outlines that, but doesn't delve much into FLW's architectural thinking. That was presumably never the intention, so perhaps criticizing it on those grounds is unfair; but overall, the book felt a little light-weight, considering the stature of the author. A worthwhile read, nonetheless.

This was a little light on details of Wright's life. I enjoyed it, but would have liked more details. Recommend to anyone as an intro to Frank Lloyd Wright.

Very interesting to me but some might feel there are parts that are overthought. Ad agencies can sometimes get stuck in thinking details to death but Kevin reminds us finding emotion and connection is more important than stacks of research that can contradict and confuse.

The book is good but not great. It's not that I had any major disagreement with anything it says, it's just that there is really nothing new in this book, nothing that I have read or lived through a hundred times before. There weren't any "a-ha moments" or breakthrough insights. If you've never read any marketing or branding books before, then you'll probably benefit by reading this. If you're like me, and have read many, many marketing and branding books, you will learn nothing new. When you're the CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, your book is going to get published; if I had written this book and taken it to a publisher, they would have laughed at me and my incoherent writing style. Some of the concepts in this book, by the way, are also found in the old book "Raving Fans", which I think is more useful. On the positive side, some of the stories are compelling, and the photography and imaging are really interesting (I own the book, not the Kindle edition). Just don't think for a second that this book will turn you into a marketing or branding guru. It won't.

Not even a real kindle book. Pages are images not text, can't read on a mobile device or resize text within screen. Content is lightweight and doesn't give practical know how that businesses need. The least useful brand book I have ever purchased. Will be asking for a refund, have never felt the need to do that before.

Working at Saatchi & Saatchi, this is a must read. Not a handbook, not a guideline book. A philosophy book. Most of the topics outlined are just common sense and daily life knowledge applied to business. Most of this knowledge you use it already, sometimes a little help is needed when appliyng it. This book guides you through.

Don't buy this book... It must be from 1999.

I felt her pain.Dabrishus has not only created a wonderfully compelling story that kept me turning the pages, but she has also created characters that I could believe in, and dialogue that jumped off the page. Beautiful.The story is fast-paced, and it kept me turning the pages. I did not want to put this book down. I can not praise this book enough.What a fantastic addition to the series. Horses, dedicated human caregivers, and a little romance/drama makes this book a winner! Ms. Dabrishus' writing makes you feel like you are up early and working hard. I especially love her descriptions of the horses and their behaviors; it's spot on. We have our own retired "Lighter" in our barn and I always wondered how he may have behaved in his former life. Now I know! My respect and admiration goes to all the workers on the backside!

All Heart is a coming of age story with complex characters and complicated horses. The book is sure to please horse crazy readers of all ages and the narrator does a lovely job giving the girl telling the story a voice."This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review."

A very enjoyable book. Just started book 3 (last book?). It's an entertaining series. I'm reading very slowly as it is my secondary book on my Kindle. But reading slowly allows me to spend more time with the characters.

Delicate and colorful, we used these to make a banner for my daughter's birthday party. The tiles can be re-arranged to form a different banner. I bought this garland to use at my wedding. Words to describe our wedding vibe: delicate, pastel, vintage, and rustic. This garland is perfect. The botanical print is lovely and I like the clean, simplicity of the font used.The only thing I would change about this garland is the metallic gold. On the back of the package it says "Tiles are printed with Metallic Gold inks." The metallic gold isn't really metallic. It also reads as almost a brown instead of a gold. I wish they would have used real metallic ink for the letters because that would another layer of style and class to the already lovely design. Small quibble though.

Not only is the design gorgeous and on nice heavy card stock, but you also get a CRAZY amount of letters! I was able to make 3 banners for a baby shower. When the party was over I was able to take the banner apart and put back in the sliding box to use some other time. The only thing I suggest is to buy additional ribbon if you're planning on making a larger banner. Seriously don't hesitate, it's worth every dollar.

This product is definitely worth the price. Rifle Paper Co products are so beautiful and this garland is no exception. The ribbon it comes with is white, however, not pink as shown in some photos.This will be perfect for a wedding, or any sort of bridal/baby shower, or any spring/summer event. You can make multiple phrases - I think that I made at least 5 wedding themed phrases with mine.Sturdy discs, strong ribbon. <3

I bought these garlands (first only found them on Amazon but now they're being sold on Anthro) for a baby shower. Then it was my son's birthday. Then it was Christmas. And then Valentine's.... and somehow I've managed to keep up a running stream of words in my house for the past 6 months. I am obsessed with Rifle Paper Co and this garland is beautiful. Lovely colors. Lots of letters so you can use them in a variety of ways and say pretty much everything you want to, and also it includes floral garland flags that are totally adorable. I love them and I am so happy that I purchased. Also, must add that the paper is good quality and sturdy. My 16 month old got into the box and got a hold of a few and they are still in good condition.

Exactly what I was looking for, customizable to make my own phrases. The price point is perfect for a banner I'll be using over and over for multiple occasions. Product is high quality and very pretty. I love that it comes with a standard size of ribbon so if I ever need to replace it, then I can pick it up at a local craft store instead of rendering the product useless with replacement parts that cannot be readily located.

In true Rifle Paper Co form, this garland is beautiful. As other reviewers noted, the script is more of a bronze than a gold, and the ribbon is white (not pink as shown.) I wish that it had come with a longer ribbon or a second ribbon, as it was a bit of a squeeze fitting our phrase (granted, it was 27 characters). There are also a couple of letters that could use extras (plenty of A's and E's, not enough O's and U's!) Overall, however, I am very pleased with it- we are placing it on display in our nursery, and it could easily be used for a variety of celebrations.

So pretty! Great quality paper, had plenty of string. It really looks beautiful!! You can spell basically anything, so many letters. Shipped in two days. Can't wait for people to see it for my baby girls first birthday party! Yay!!

This was my first Karin Slaughter book and I went into with a little trepidation based on some of the reviews I read regarding the content of the story and plot details. However, at the end of it all, I was glad I went ahead and read this book since it ended up being a very well written psychological murder suspense thriller.While the book did start off slowly, with establishing the backgrounds of Lydia, Claire and the disappearance of Julia and its effects on the family. But once the story and plot started moving, the pace and entertainment level ratcheted up. You become engrossed into the story and made you want to find out how everything gets resolved. While some of the details and content of the plot is disturbing (especially if you’re a female), it’s nothing so out there that I haven’t read with other thriller suspense novels and isn’t something that should turn you away from this book.Looking back on this read, while this is a murder suspense thriller, it’s more of a psychological thriller. That complaint I had earlier about the slow start and information building? It served a bigger purpose in that it established the foundation on which the suspense and thrill is built upon. Learning about Lydia, Claire, and their family before and after Julia’s disappearance made you emotionally invested in them and how dysfunctional they all became after the loss of Julia. Once you come to understand them, you in turn understand the severity of all the revelations that you come to learn about Julia’s disappearance and the personal nature of it. It’s where the tension and suspense comes from more so than from the actual crime as horrible as it is. And in the end, this is really a story about a family who has suffered greatly from a loss and the unknown status of a missing loved one. Without Slaughter writing a compelling family dynamic, the overall story wouldn’t have worked.While there are certain aspects of the story that I would question (e.g. the extent of the cover up and participants in a small town) as a whole I thought this was a smart, suspenseful and engrossing read. It was well-written and, aside from the beginning, was nicely paced. The book didn’t follow any kind of formulaic thread you would expect from a psychological thriller. While there is an overall disappearance/murder/conspiracy umbrella plot, its heart lays in the complex and complicated nature of a family who is still suffering the effects of missing a loved one and trying to find closure.

My review is not really needed, given all the similar reviews, but at least it will add to the weighting. I find Ms. Slaughter's writing mesmerizing. I have read most, if not all, of her books, and within minutes I am always immersed. I do, however, find the graphic violence hard to take, and agree with the reviewers who thought the in "Pretty Girls" it was over the top. About 3/4 of the way through I just stopped reading and looked at the end. I also agree that the plot was almost incidental to all the violence; I think the book was intended to focus more on the characters and what an early tragedy did to their lives than to be intricately plotted, but it didn't hold together well enough for me. Too much coincidence was needed to make the solution work. I also agree that at least some of the characters -- in particular the chief villain -- seemed implausible, as did the scope of the conspiracy and the failure of anyone to notice for decades that a serial killer was among them. Too bad - I really loved Coptown.

This book was a page turner, I couldn't put it down but I think the write ups should mention something about the subject matter. It's certainly not for everyone and I think that needs to be explained if possible without giving anything away. It's not for the faint hearted. We were going to read this for book club but I pulled it before most people started because I knew some wouldn't be able to read it. However I like I said I couldn't put it down as I wanted to see how everything turned out. If you enjoy Crime Scene Investigation episodes then you're good to go, but if you find that program disturbing then don't read this book.

This book was suggested to me by Amazon, most likely because I had read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. After reading the description, I thought I'd give it a try. All I can say is that if you enjoy reading about young women being tortured, mutilated, and murdered, this may be the book for you. I personally was horrified by the graphic details Karin Slaughter felt were necessary and even more so by her publisher for not having the book edited drastically. The story line was weak and the book repulsed me. I wanted to make sure Paul got his comeuppance; otherwise I would have thrown it away. I've never read anything by Ms. Slaughter before and am certainly not going to waste my time with her books again. There is too much good literature available to bother with a book this disturbing.

It started off so good then it went down a very dark path and kept getting worse. I wish I had never read this book, it was so disturbing. Do not recommend.

This is an expertly crafted novel that quickly takes the reader into the action and never loses momentum for the entirety of the book. The writing is descriptive, yet tight. The storyline is familiar, but fresh. The characters are complex and believable. This story is gritty, disgusting, intelligent, gripping, and shocking. I feel a bit like I did after reading Silence of the Lambs many years ago. It's that good.I honestly don't know what I just read; and I may need therapy now, but I can't wait to read more from this talented author!

I had to stop reading this book - because it relies on a stupid girl being stupid. Instead of using her money to hire someone to look into things, or talking to any one of the thousands of people she could have spoken to that weren't the 2 gross officers of the law, she goes herself into an obviously dangerous situation.

If the author wanted Shock and Awe, she got it. But she went far over the line. I did not finish it --would not finish it. Had far too many mental images than I wanted already. The details of the assaults and murder were depraved and evil in its purist form. One wonders what kind of person could even conceive of the ritualistic brutality of the character, much less write it down, edit it, proof it, and publish it. No thanks, I will never read this author again.
