This is a very good book on negotiating that I purchased, or had given to me about 30 years ago. It's sufficiently short in length, but long on fundamentals, that you could quite literally read (and learn) the key points in a single day. I've always liked the mix of the emphasis both on the win-win perspective of negotiating vs. the just "I've got to win" angle, as well as the use of some light-handed psychology that helps shape the expectations of your opposite negotiating party, and so that the transaction evolves to something that both parties can live with (since nobody should always get everything they want - or at least not in the real world).The book proved it's worth for me on at least 2-3 practical occasions in the past (2 car-buying and one house-buying experiences). In some regards those transactions and the negotiations, which I (and most people I suspect) usually dread - were actually kind of enjoyable. The key is to never put yourself in the position of having to close the deal (on whatever) right then. Time urgency-driven need will kill you, because you always have to be willing to walk away from a deal, and have the attitude that this is not the last car or the last house on the face of the planet. This isn't always easy when you're in partnership with a desparately pleading spouse who isn't helping much with statements of "this house is perfect", "we've got to have this house", and "we can't let this one get away no matter what" - right in front of the seller, the seller's real estate agent and your real estate agent. Because at that point you should pretty much realize you've surrendered virtually any negotiating leverage you might have had.I've got my employees at work now reading this book, because I find that for some of our employees negotiating appears to have become a totally lost art. When they're all fully "read-in" on the book, I plan on trying to develop a negotiating "primer" for our organization's recruiters - because I believe their current understanding of negotiating with job candidates on the issue of salary, is limited to: would you like a little more or a lot more?!?! Whether purchased New or Used, this book is a timeless winner, with practical value for everyone - buy it.

What a great book, very well written and with too many important pieces of information to even start counting. I bought this book after reading "Negotiate THIS!" which for me is better, because it's distilled knowledge from "You Can Negotiate Anything". But reading this book widens your frame of reference so is good to have them both. Hooray for Herb Cohen!

As the title indicates, this book is about negotiation, which the author defines as: "What is negotiation? It is the use of information and power to affect behavior within a "web of tension." If you think about this broad definition, you'll realize that you do, in fact, negotiate all the time both on your job and in your personal life." Herb then summarizes the three pillars of negotiation, the main premise of the book: "In every negotiation in which you're involved--in every negotiation in which I'm involved--in fact, in every negotiation in the world (from a diplomatic geopolitical negotiation to the purchase of a home)--three crucial elements are always present: 1. Information. The other side seems to know more about you and your needs than you know about them and their needs. 2. Time. The other side doesn't seem to be under the same kind of organizational pressure, tune constraints, and restrictive deadlines you feel you're under. 3. Power. The other side always seems to have more power and authority than you think you have."Below are key excerpts from the book that I found particularly insightful:1- "Within reason, you can get whatever you want if you're aware of our options, if you test your assumptions, if you take shrewdly calculated risks based on solid information, and if you believe you have power. I've taught classes on Negotiation and read many books as preparation. There is nothing better. This isn't clinical or condescending and Mr. Cohen's anecdotes will have the reader laughing. This book has had a greater impact on my career than any book I've read.

It's relatively good advice on negotiation strategies, the problem with reading it now is that it is all too clear that it was written in the '80s, so some of the things he talks about (for example, imitating someone with a speech impediment to get a good deal on a washer as a legitimate negotiation strategy) are a little dated (and potentially rude).

I read this book.I got a 171 on my LSAT.Your results may vary.The details: over a 7 week period leading up to the December 2015 LSAT I read and studied about 90% of this book, doing probably 70% of the exercises inside. My decision to apply to law school was relatively last minute--I had no time to sign up for any LSAT prep courses, either online or in person. I was working a full time job plus carrying a small adjunct teaching load. The only additional study materials I used were the official prep tests (some very early ones plus 62-71 and 76) and the free logic game videos available on 7sage's website. I roughly followed the 8-week study schedule from Mike Kim's website. I took 9 timed practice tests total, which is a few more than Mike Kim recommends. My first timed test was a 156, then I jumped to 163, and after that I averaged 173 (high of 177).Overall I found the book to be engaging and--dare I say it--fun. I looked forward to each chapter, as the LSAT became a quest in itself for me. Mike's writing style was such that I felt we had become friends by the time it was all said and done (although I was afraid to watch any videos of him, lest they disrupt my mental construction of his personality). Of course, that's not to say that this book doesn't require determination to get through. Mike's emphasis on "self-driven" in the subtitle is very appropriate. If that's you, though, then I think you will benefit from this book as much as I did.

If you're self-studying, do yourself a favor and get this book. I know there are so many books available and it can feel overwhelming to choose, but one look at Mike Kim's website and reviews should tell you that this guy is the real deal. I read it cover to cover, completed every exercise, and got in the 94th percentile of the LSAT.

So you just spent $180 registering for the LSAT, and an additional $175 for CAS (which is the biggest racket ever because that $175 only covers storing your information - in order to distribute it to schools, it's another $30 per application). When they told you "Law School isn't cheap!" they weren't lying.Here's the thing: What book you use depends on how you think. I took the LSAT last year and used a combination of Kaplan and Princeton Review - didn't feel like I learned a damn thing and my test scores showed that (still got a decent score - but didn't get into my school of choice or a substantial financial aid package). Both of those books focused a lot on timing and on the day of the test, in spite of the fact that I practiced using LSAT Preptests left and right, I sat there twiddling my thumbs for at least five minutes after each section, believing that I couldn't do any better.I'm halfway through The LSAT Trainer, and my times for games are way down (Kim uses a different diagramming model that makes sense to me more than Kaplan or Princeton Review), and I genuinely know how to approach logical reasoning questions in all of their forms.The biggest pro: The explanations.I'm one of those people who can't learn unless I know what I did wrong. If that's your affliction, this book explains most problems to you. I can backtrack, reread the problem and figure out exactly where I went wrong and what needs to happen to get it right. Halfway through the book and when I'm wrong, I was able to narrow down the answers to the two most viable options.Things that bother me: Sections do have errors (there's a crappy "Rate how you did section" that tells you to rate yourself 1 - 5 on five different criteria, then has you total it out of 20 instead of 25), and the denotation of answers changes throughout the book (sometimes they are bold, sometimes circled, sometimes just wrong answers are crossed out).Is this the best book out there? Probably not, but after forking out $355 before even taking the damn test, you better believe that I'm not about to fork out another $150 for the PowerScore books, especially when, like most people, I'm not in an area where a print version can be acquired before buying - and that's a lot of money (money that could be better spent sending me scores to five schools through the mandatory CAS system).But, here's the thing: The LSAT is a test that is designed not to be finished. I've known people who woke up the morning of without ever studying and people who dropped thousands of dollars on prep courses who scored the same. I've known people who took practice tests, spent thousands on prep courses and scored the exact same on the test the day of.If you have a decent test taking foundation, this book will likely help you.If you have no idea how to do logic games, this book will likely help you.If you're struggling with understanding why you're getting logical reasoning questions wrong, this book will likely help you.If you get this book and insist that it didn't help you at all because you couldn't understand it and it didn't provide enough of an explanation, do not become a lawyer.

Read this front to back and you won’t need an expensive course. He teaches you how to think about the problems and not just how to do them. I started about 3 months before the LSAT and went from a 153 diagnostic to a 168. I did not take one course and found they would almost offset the progress I made. Really focus and spend an hour a day working as this book suggests. I also listened to as many of the Thinking LSAT podcasts as I could (not affiliated to this book) but I found them to compliment each other extremely well. Your LSAT basically defines your law school opportunities , don’t waste time or resources. I highly recommend this book!!

I got a 174. This book really teaches you to understand the LSAT, and it’s written in a fun and engaging style that makes studying less painful. Excersizes are consistently helpful. Consider using in combination with the Powerscore Bible and/or 7Sage videos if your weakness is logic games like me.

I took the LSAT in February 2018, I have never taken a standardized test and never have taken a test that was basically a make or break situation. I took no courses on LSAT and ordered this book after looking around. This was my LSAT guide. I did the 8 week study plan and it turned me around and as a result I have been accepted to law school. I never write reviews but I must say this is a must if your taking the LSAT. The book is easy to understand and it feels like you have an instructor right with you. Now if your not motivated to study and put in the work by yourself this will not work. You have to put in the time and effort. If you do that with this cheap book you can save thousands that you would spend on courses. This book covers it all. Thank you to the author of this book.

I seriously regret ever taking the Kaplan course for $1000. This book has it all with so much clarity. Mike Kim does a great job keeping things candid and simple. Book is worth every penny, and if you spend a month and a half doing every page thoroughly it is basically impossible to not improve. I was stuck in the 160 range when I started, but know now I am able to score consistently around 170. So pleased with this purchase!

This series of books is one of our LO's favorite. He'll cycle through handing me the Eye Book, Nose Book and the Ear Book and stay engaged through the whole thing. Fun book to read with your LO. I plan to add the Foot Book soon as well as others.

My great nephew loved it. Just like my grandchildren did. It makes it easy for kids to point and learn to say a word. I'm sure I'll buy more of this particular book, as another niece is expecting, and I wouldn't want her to be without it when she starts reading to the baby.

Great little book! Perfect for bedtime reading and compact enough to travel with. We've been reading this book to our daughter since she was under 1. She's almost 2.5 now and still loves it.

FYI, I'm a Bronze level coach, and I definitely learned a bunch from this book.

Although this is the first full-length bowling book I've read, it's hard to imagine one being more rigorously analytical or more complete. I state my opinion after having dutifully read countless articles and watched innumerable videos over the years.The writing style reflects the analytical experience that the authors must have already undergone: they first present popular (mis)conceptions and (mis)understandings and critique them, before describing and rigorously supporting their own conclusions. This writing approach adds significantly to the length of the book, but I presume it was adopted to help cement the reader's understanding.Early on, they say theirs is not a "how to" book, though in fact abundant practical advice is peppered throughout.Most analyses were well supported, though I (as an engineer) took issue with a couple of points the authors made. First, though they are correct in noting that an "n%" faster delivery of an "n%" lighter ball delivers more kinetic energy to the pins than a slower delivery of a heavier ball, they seem to assume that humans will always deliver a lighter ball faster--which is not the case for everyone's style. Also, their criticism of the 3-6-9 spare shooting system seems to involve a faulty analysis based on their focus on the board at which the ball crosses the foul line, rather than on foot placement at setup on which the 3-6-9 system is in fact based.Regardless, the book is full of self-evidently solid analysis and clear presentation, with the terribly grueling mathematics wisely relegated to appendices. Wisely, they close their book by modestly encouraging others to pick up where their book leaves off.This book's clear, comprehensive, analytical approach should make it a healthy study and a good reference for years to come.

If you want to geek out, the math is all there... if you want to just know results, you don't have to get bogged down in the math... if you want a little of both, and everything in between, it's all there.This is the "You Don't Know Jack!" of Bowling. No more ruminating.

This was purchased by my wife who is a new bowler and had researched for an informative book on the subject. Of the five she tried, this book was the most effective at explaining what happens from the ball leaving the hand through to the striking of the pins. She has found that, with a clearer understanding of the physics of the process her game scores have improved and are continuing to improve.

I started reading this book shortly after recieving it, and (so far) find it easy to read, with lots of interesting detailed information. Some things have opened my eyes on different aspects of bowling, while other things confirm information previously known.Only in chapter four, and have lots of highlighted areas, I will reread several times, and reference back to in the future.

Although I'm a retired Civil Engineer, a performing guitarist for 50 years and owner of 7 vintage tube amps and 2 modern tube amps, I guess I wasn't smart enough to "get" this. I wanted to get a good understanding of how the circuits work, but didn't quite get there. Maybe it's more for a guitar amp repairman than someone wanting to understand the workings of guitar amps in detail.

This is a very comprehensive book on guitars and amplifiers which should be of interest to any musician or student entering the electronics field. I bought the first version almost 35 years ago when I was in a rock band using Fender Bandmaster equipment. It was just a skinny little handbook back then. Jack Darr just keeps getting better!

Good to have if you plan on repairing tube amps.

For the advanced technician, great read, Nice that someone has taken the time to reprint this great book. Well worth the money and recommended as a must read by some members of the music-electronics-forum.com, Outstanding book at a reasonable price. I would recommend this to my friends.

As one who owns stacks of guitar amplifier books, I bought this one after seeing a mention of it. To sum it up, it was a book for a TV repair shop who wanted to work on guitar amplifiers. This is how many amp techs got their start in the business (when there was little info out there). It had a few bright spots on problem solving, but it far from best in its class. It has no understanding of tone and is very old school (amplifiers are not to distort). Most of the book is schematics (second half). What little I got from this book was in testing (for repairs) that will help somewhat in building amplifiers. But overall, I did learn some things to fill some holes in my knowledge and you may do so too. But if you are looking at this because you like vintage amps it is pretty much a bad choice these days and the old school advice is simply bad advice. The basic premise is to get an amp to work again nothing more. There is also a lot of not very important information. OK, it is a classic and folks way back when loved it, but there are so many books out there now, it really does not cut it now. On the other hand, so many people wanted this book that is was reprinted in 2006 when the last printing was 1977. So it is OK buy this to fill in your book collection or pick something up, but realize there is not really that much here. (If you know nothing about electronic repair it may have more value to you in that regard only, then you need to get all the current info from all the other books that are available). Also you are not going to fix your own amplifier if that is what you want to do. Bring it to a good amp tech, they really are not expensive compared to auto repairs.
