What a wonderful, wonderful book !This book tells the story of Lisa Frederic who comes to racing relatively late in her life. She volunteers for the Iditarod and gets hooked on the sport. Within 5 years, she is running in the Iditarod herself at the age of 42. Not only is the story inspiring, it is well written and interesting. She spends the first half of the book describing the process she went through to be able to run in the Iditarod (cleaning the dog yard, trainig the dogs, etc.) and the second half of the book talks about the race itself.Lisa conveys both the thrill and heartbreak of running dogs and you come away understanding just how tough this really is to do. For a 46-year-old mom from Indiana, all I can say is "WOW!". While running in the Iditarod is not something I want to do, I love reading about people who have done it. This book is an absolute must read for anyone who is interested in dogs, the Iditarod or taking chances and doing somethind different with your life.Other good books on this subject: "Winterdance" by Gary Paulson and "Race Across Alaska" by Libby Riddles.

I had the pleasure of being on one of Lisa's bus tours to view McKinley, now Denali two years ago. Since I am from Louisville KY, we obviously had a great time, even with my wife along. She is a very personable and like able person. May she have many more years of good times with David and dogs. I'm looking forward to your next book.P.S. I hope Jeff is ok after being hit during this past Iditarod. What a terrible thing to have happen to a true Champion.

We had the author as a tour guide when we visited Alaska in the Denali park area and the book was an outstanding read of her past experiences.

I met Lisa in Denali on the wilderness tour. She is a wonderful person and a great story teller. Her love for dogs and Alaska comes shinning through in her book and in person. I don't know how she did it but wow. A great read.

An absolutely delightful story of the crazy and wonderful world of sled dog mushing in Alaska.

Lisa was the tour guide on our 9 hour Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali NP in September and did a great job. Great on stories, history, and of course her dogs. The book is just like talking to Lisa. She has a very outgoing personality and a true love of Alaska - this comes through clearly in her book as well. This book also makes a great gift.

I met Lisa Frederic while visiting Alaska last month and touring Denali. Her love of Alaska and passion she shared during my tour led me to seek out her book. It was an amazing read. I felt so many emotions as she made her journey. Her love for those dogs really tugged at my heart. I'm so incredibly grateful. This book deepened my Alaskan adventure.

Awesome. Day one ....to....the finish.... several years to get there. Many bumps on the forehead...then she got back up and continued!!!! ... her team ......... power with gracefulness. A must read!!

About the Author

Howard Mudd was an All-Pro and All- Decade right guard for the San Francisco Forty Niners in the 1960’s. He went on to become one of the most respected offensive line coaches in the game from 1974 to 2012. From 1998 to 2009 he served as the offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts, which won the Super Bowl in the 2006 season. In 2014 the Pro Football Writers of America made him one of four inaugural recipients of the Paul “Dr. Z” Zimmerman Award for lifetime achievement by an NFL assistant coach. He continues his involvement in coaching NFL offensive lines, teaching at speaking at coaching clinics throughout the country.Richard Lister has been a trial attorney with a passion for writing and a love of sports. He conducted interviews and research that became apart of Hall of Fame baseball umpire Doug Harvey’s autobiography, They Called Me God.

Great read for any football fan - an amazing inside look at the unsung heroes of the game. The book is a mix of Howard Mudd's career memories mixed in with interviews from some of the best in the game - past and present (Nick Hardwick, Jackie Slater). The book is a mix of technical football insights and player stories. Very enjoyable. It will remind all of us who play fantasy football who we really have to thank for those high scoring quarterbacks and runningbacks. I have always heard from people who really know the game that offensive linemen are the smartest in the game - and this book outlines why this is true. Enjoy!

A very fun read. I was expecting a bit more technical information on offensive line play, but the book was nonetheless a very enjoyable and informative read. The way the author has set up the book, it reads like you are in a room with a bunch of former and current offensive linemen having a discussion that is guided through a wide range of offensive line topics from making the team through to trying to block Bruce Smith. It was really cool to read the thoughts of greats like Randy Cross and Mike Munchak; current stars like Joe Staley and Evan Mathis, and recent standouts like Jeff Saturday. While I think this books mostly would appeal to the more nerdy football fans, I think even casual fans would appreciate it because there are a vast number of funny stories and interesting anecdotes that counterbalance the technical offensive line jargon.

Wow, this book was more than I bargained for, insightful, instructive, and seriously freaking funny. As the just slightly more than casual football fan I found this read fascinating and engrossing. I've never played the game (apart from flag football in college) but this book allowed me to gain a new perspective and understanding on what the offensive line actually does. Not to mention the hilarious stories! I have my own ebook copy, but just gifted two to my Dad and Brother as an early Christmas present! I can't recommend enough!

The book also contains a little information on how the line functions, what each position does, why they do things, how they game plan...but again this is less than 20 percent of the book.

I enjoy watching football, but don't really know too much about it. So I learned a lot reading this book, but what I most enjoyed was the stories of the players themselves. What interesting people! The book is well written, telling of the career of Howard Mudd along while weaving in other important o-line players who he played with or coached; and theircontributions to the game. Even if you are just a casual fan you will enjoy this book. A serious fan will love it.

The book was very interesting as it was written from various viewpoints of former NFL Offensive linemen. I did, however, order the book in hopes that Howard Mudd would include more of his teaching techniques in areas such as, trapping, zone blocking both the even and odd fronts, initial steps, the fit into the defender,,finishing the block and blocking at the second level. It was still a good read.

This book probably isn't for everyone. But if you are into the nuts and bolts of how football is played its tremendous. First hand accounts, X and Os. Good stories. Makes you want to suit up.

Great book! Haven't laughed so much since reading "Fatso" by old Art Donovan. This makes it pretty clear how college isn't preparing the NFL O linemen these days. Glad I got this book. Great quotes from some of the best O linemen to ever play in the NFL.

Lent has always been a fascinating and frustrating season of spiritual growth for me. Damiani makes Lent plain for regular folks to enter in, while keeping it strange for those of us that need to be confronted with an alternative rhythm of repentance and preparation. He's also a really incredible writer, so this was an easy and super enjoyable read. This is a great companion for the Lenten season, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to pursue an uncluttered and more deeply rooted spiritual life!

I don't have enough good words about this book. As someone who lives in the netherworld of loving and cherishing Catholicism and the heritage it gives me and loving and cherishing the Reformation and Reformed theology, this was a book I hardly knew I wanted so much. It helps me to respond to the questions I get about Lent from other protestants and those who speak harshly towards tradition as being contrary to "Mere Christianity" even as it has helped me to prepare my heart to respond to the invitation of Lent. Aaron gives an historical, theological, and practical case for why Lent is Good Medicine--not a mandate of works righteousness, not a lure away from Mere Christianity, but a gift to anyone who desires to participate in prayer, fasting, and generosity in a more structured and communal way on the path of discipleship.Loved this so much. I'm sure I'll return to it in future years to prepare for the Lenten season, but it was especially providential to read it this week before Lent.

My husband and I read this book in time for Lent this past spring after hearing the author on the Phil Vischer podcast. We dipped our toes into the Lent experience this year and plan to make it a deeper, more meaningful tradition with our children next year. We currently attend a church that doesn't really do anything with Lent (Baptist...) and Easter was much more meaningful this year with our hearts more prepared. The author provides a history of Lent, several reasons to recognize Lent, and a variety of different ways to tailor it to your personal or family's spiritual needs.

The Good of Giving Up is written in a conversational, easily-accessible style; but it is not simplistic. The book is written with theological rigor and depth, but I also appreciated the practical section for pastors and laypeople at the end.Overall, I think this book is great for both skeptics and Lent-subscribers. For the skeptics, it will help you at least familiarize yourself with what you view with suspicion--and may even convert you. For the subscribers, it can offer up the chance to engage with aspects of Lent you may have neglected in the past, such as acts of charity.

Fr. Aaron gets to the gut level reality of why many of us as evangelicals resist the season of Lent. He brings his own relevant (and humble) experience to bear, showing how God used the disciplines and rhythms of Lent (anticipating Easter) as life giving and not at all legalistic. It's an easy read in once sense, but if one approaches it with an open and willing heart one is likely to find to very challenging.

If you want a "how to" book this is good. I was looking more fore an insightful book, and it is not that. I think it was meant to convince and instruct, rather than to inspire.

This is an excellent book to prepare your heard and spirit for Lent. It reads easy and use helped me think about Lent (as a Protestant) in a new, refreshing way.

This book is a tremendous, helpful, balanced approach to Lent and the helpfulness of Lent to deepen our Christian faith. I appreciated the historicity presented, the encouragement to dig deep while being careful of the “whys” and the very practical guidance given throughout this book.

Just recently visited the Tombstone Courthouse Arizona State Museum in, of course, Tombstone Arizona. A really terrific museum I must add. This "Images of America" book on Tombstone really helped me fill in for myself some of the details which I was not able to take away from some the courthouse exhibits. (It's hard to read every exhibit description.) This is a very good book for anyone wanting to know more about the history of Tombstone during the late 19th and early 20th century's.

This book is well worth the purchase. It is a more casual view of historic Tombstone, rather than an academic endeavor. It contains a few factual and proofreading errors (e.g. a picture labeled Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp [correct], but is Wyatt Stapp Berry Earp in the text next to the picture), but nothing that is a serious flaw. You read this book to learn a bit of Tombstone history and to enjoy the many pictures, not to do serious research. Had the book been error free, it would have earned five stars from me.

This book is great! Love the pictures and the quality of the book. It arrived undamaged and fast. It's very informative and definitely for those infatuated by Wyatt Earp and the wild west!

As in all the Images of America, this is a good one. Good packaging so it arrived secure.

At first I was reluctant to buy this book because most books have the same picture of the same things and the same people. This book had pictures of everything from buildings to people. The author includes a brief description for each photo and it was really enjoyable to read. However, if you are a history buff most of the descriptions/stories are nothing new.Overall, good book and great pictures.
